Baltimore Ave. over I-670 to close on May 13 until Dec. 2021
JACKSON COUNTY – MoDOT Kansas City will be replacing the Baltimore Ave. bridge over I-670. In preparation for the total closure of the bridge, crews will close the bridge on Saturday, May 8, from 6 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m. for utility removal. Beginning at 6 a.m. on Thursday, May 13, until approximately Dec. 2021, the Baltimore Ave. bridge over I-670 will be CLOSED for replacement. The Baltimore Ave. bridge detour will be signed. Motorists will utilize 14th St., Main St., and 16th St., to route around bridge closure.
The bridge demolition will require the TOTAL CLOSURE of I-670 between I-35 and I-70 (the south side of the downtown loop) beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 14, until approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, May 17. Motorists are encouraged to use the northern portion of the downtown loop around the closure of I-670.This work will also close the following ramps during the demolition weekend (May 14-17):
The ramp from northbound I-35 to eastbound I-670
The ramp from southbound I-35 to eastbound I-670
The Truman Rd. ramp just past Broadway to eastbound I-670
The ramp from Wyoming St. to eastbound I-670
The ramp from eastbound I-70 to westbound I-670
The ramp from northbound U.S. 71 to westbound I-670
The ramp from 10th St. to westbound I-670
The ramp from westbound I-70 to westbound I-670
The existing bridge is nearing the end of its service life necessitating the need for replacement. The new bridge will be the same height and width as the current bridge. The decorative fencing on the existing bridge will be re-attached to the new structure. All work is weather permitting.
